Alicante is the capital that gives its name to the province and, in terms of population size, it is the second largest city in the Valencian Community. The connection between the two capitals is fundamental not only for the tourist sector, but also for business travel between Valencia and Alicante.
What to do in Alicante?
Alicante is a city open to the sea, offering tourists excellent quality beaches just a few metres from the city centre. Some of the places where you can bathe are:
- San Juan Beach.
- The Postiguet beach.
- The nearby island of Tabarca.
Alicante offers a wide variety of activities to discover the city, such as a stroll through the Barrio de Santa Cruz, or in other words, a walk through the old part of the city.
Walk at the foot of the Castle of Santa Barbara, which can also be visited.
The Albufereta district houses the remains of the ancient Roman Lucentum at the Tossal of Manises site.
Don't miss strolling around the Explanada de España or to visit the Central Market.
You can also visit the Archaeological Museum of Alicante (MARQ).
Or the Museum of Contemporary Art (MACA).
But the connection between Valencia and Alicante goes beyond the strictly tourist aspect. They are the two largest cities in the Valencian Community (in addition to Alicante's proximity to Elche, the third largest city) and there are many companies based in both cities, which sometimes require employees to move between the two of them.
Sometimes we are asked for transfers from Valencia Airport (VLC) to Alicante-Elche Airport (ALC) for stopover reasons, that require a pick-up at one of them to arrive on time to the other.
What to eat in Alicante?

Rice dishes are popular (especially rice with crust) and paella alicantina. Olleta alicantina, a stew of vegetables, rice and pork, or Borreta, a stew with cod, potatoes and vegetables. As for sweets, Alicante is known for its nougat, although you can also try toña or panquemao.
How to get from Valencia to Alicante?
The importance of both cities means that they are well connected and can be reached by train in just over two hours. There is also the possibility of travelling by bus, although the journey is somewhat longer, taking around 3 hours. The fastest and most direct way to get from Valencia to Alicante is by car on the AP-7, a journey that takes just under 2 hours.
